Pompeii can be reached by several railway lines, buses and organised tours. The best option depends on where you are travelling from and which entrance to the Archaeological Park you need to use.
The station called Pompei Scavi–Villa dei Misteri is the most convenient for Porta Marina and Piazza Esedra. The Trenitalia station called simply Pompei is located in the modern town and is connected to the archaeological park by the Pompei Link bus service.

Which Station Is Closest to Pompeii?
There are three railway stations that can be useful when visiting the archaeological site.
Pompei Scavi–Villa dei Misteri
This station is on the EAV Circumvesuviana Naples–Sorrento line.
It is the most convenient station for:

Porta Marina;

Piazza Esedra;

many guided-tour meeting points;

the Antiquarium.
After leaving the station, Porta Marina can be reached in a few minutes on foot. Piazza Esedra and the tour offices in Piazza Porta Marina Inferiore are also nearby.
Pompei Santuario
Pompei Santuario is on the EAV Naples–Poggiomarino line.
It is more convenient for:

Piazza Anfiteatro;

the eastern side of the archaeological city;

the Pompeii for All accessible itinerary;

the Sanctuary and the centre of modern Pompeii.
The archaeological entrance is reached with a walk through the modern town.
Pompei Trenitalia Station
The main Trenitalia station is located on the Naples–Salerno railway line.
It should not be confused with Pompei Scavi–Villa dei Misteri. From Pompei station, visitors can walk through the modern town or use the Pompei Link train-and-bus connection to reach the archaeological park.

How to Get to Pompeii from Naples
Circumvesuviana Train
The most frequently used public-transport option is the EAV Circumvesuviana train on the Naples–Sorrento line.
Trains depart from:

Napoli Piazza Garibaldi, beneath Napoli Centrale station.
Take a train towards Sorrento and get off at:

Campania Express
Campania Express is a tourist railway service connecting Naples, Herculaneum, Pompeii and Sorrento during its operating season.

From the square outside Pompei station, the Pompei Link bus connects the railway station with the Archaeological Park. The combined train-and-bus ticket can be purchased through Trenitalia by selecting Pompei Scavi as the destination.
This option can be useful for visitors who prefer Trenitalia services or are arriving in Naples on another national railway connection.

How to Get to Pompeii from Salerno
The most straightforward railway option is a Trenitalia regional train from Salerno to Pompei station.
From Pompei station, continue to the archaeological area:

Busitalia also operates services between Salerno and the Pompeii area, including lines 4 and 50. Routes, stops and temporary diversions can change, so check the current Busitalia timetable before travelling.

How to Get to Pompeii from Naples Airport
Naples International Airport does not have a railway station.
The simplest public-transport route is:

take the Alibus service from Naples Airport to Napoli Centrale;

continue from Napoli Piazza Garibaldi with the Circumvesuviana Naples–Sorrento line;

get off at Pompei Scavi–Villa dei Misteri.
Alternatively, take a Trenitalia regional train from Napoli Centrale to Pompei station and continue with Pompei Link.

How to Reach Pompeii by Car
Pompeii is located close to the A3 Naples–Salerno motorway.
For Porta Marina and Piazza Esedra, use the Pompei Scavi motorway exit and follow the signs for the archaeological site.
Visitors heading towards Piazza Anfiteatro and the centre of modern Pompeii may also use the exits serving the eastern side of the city, depending on the direction of travel and current road conditions.
Cars cannot enter the archaeological site. Public and private parking areas are available outside the entrances, but availability and prices vary.
During weekends, holidays and the busiest months, allow extra time for traffic and parking.
Do not leave luggage or valuable items visible inside the vehicle.

Porta Marina
Address: Via Villa dei Misteri.
This entrance is convenient for visitors arriving at Pompei Scavi–Villa dei Misteri station and provides access near the western side of the ancient city.
Piazza Esedra
Address: Piazza Porta Marina Inferiore.
Piazza Esedra is close to the Antiquarium and is frequently used for guided-tour check-in and meeting points.
Piazza Anfiteatro
Address: Piazza Immacolata.
This entrance is convenient for visitors arriving from Pompei Santuario station and provides access to the eastern side of the ancient city. It is also the recommended starting point for the Pompeii for All accessible route.
